The courses listed here count toward Cirque Acrobatics Arts Conservatory credit. When two courses are taken within the same conservatory, students qualify for a conservatory letter. Students should also register for PreMaster and Master certification courses to be prepared to graduate certified within their conservatory.

DESCRIPTION: Advanced Choir I is a course for students who qualify for advanced music instruction through audition. This course is designed to increase the vocal skill and performance levels of each student and to develop aesthetic and cultural values through critical listening, music theory, and sight singing. Students will sing a wide range of literature form a variety of time periods, languages, cultures and styles. Students will perform medium to difficult, high school choral literature for performances in concerts and festivals. Emphasis will be placed on small ensemble One-Voice-per-Part Acappella material including jazz and Classical selections. From the study of these various styles, students will attain enhanced awareness of the history and events surrounding the development of choral literature.

DESCRIPTION: Ballet and Lyrical I focuses on the technique and application of classical ballet for the beginning student. Students will gain an understanding of body alignment, flexibility, physical and spatial awareness as well as musicality and coordination. The lecture component of this course covers the historical and cultural implications of classical ballet. Class discussions on analysis, physical safety, injury prevention and terminology including dance medicine, kinesiology and anatomy. The physical portion of this class focuses on barre, center and across the floor combinations. The end of this course culminates in full length routines that incorporate all of the learned techniques.

DESCRIPTION: In Drama I builds upon the lessons learned in Drama I.  Focussing on theatre history, and acting skills, students will learn to increase and heighten their imagination through theatre games, train and mold the movements of their bodies by learning actor warm-ups, self awareness, and character creation, experiment with yoga, stage combat, and showing expression using their bodies.  In Drama II students will also learn how to train their voices as an actor, by learning vocal warm-ups, mastering projection and articulation.   Creating a character physically and vocally by analyzing motivation and behavior will become second nature.  All students will learn how to create an analysis of a play and write their own plays.  In Drama II, they will enjoy, love, appreciate, and refine their talents in the art of drama!

DESCRIPTION: This course is an entry level practical for acro balance, contortion, and adagio. Students will concentrate on flexibility, core balance, strength, and teamwork.  The fundamentals of Ground Arts follow the skills from Equilibristics that start with the preliminary skills of headstands and handbalancing, move into balancing on rolling objects (like unicycle, rolla bolla, Chinese Ball) and stilting objects (like stilts, freestanding ladder, and human columns.

DESCRIPTION: This class is designed to hone the skills of ballet, and mold young men into polished male dancers. The boys are expected to obtain a certain degree of strength and athleticism necessary for partnering and more demanding jumps. Physical discipline and general body awareness and control and sense of physical and mental confidence will we strived for. Development of social interaction through friendships, an understanding of the relationship between music, rhythm and controlled movement, and insights into art forms associated with classical ballet will be taught.  Male or female students can take this course, but the course will be taught from the perspective of the male dancer.

DESCRIPTION: This course is an entry level practical for aerialist techniques associated with circus arts and circus dance techniques. Applying core physical strength to the artistry of a variety of aerial apparatus including tissu and lyra. Students will work on rigging, rigging safety standards, and choreography identified within the aerialist genre. Students meet for 90 class meetings (not including recitals and festival performances) that include hands-on lab training as well as contextual lectures and critical discussions about aerialist techniques and standards.
