In the scope of the course will be covered the following topics: correct body posture including proper left- and right-hand positions, guitar basics, note reading and the application of musical elements, chord study, rhythm strumming, use of “pima” technique, flat-picking, ear training, aural skills development, music theory, identification and analysis of musical form, arranging and composition of short melodies, improvisation and performance as a soloist, accompanist and as a member of a small and large ensemble. Students will explore the role of the instrument in todays’ society through learning to perform in various styles as guitarists including classical, blues, rock, jazz, flamenco, contemporary and other. As part of the class students will create a collage representing what music, and in particular the guitar, means to them and the way it relates to their real-life experiences in the cultural and historic contexts.
